Dragonera by Boat: Cliffs, Lighthouses and Port d’Andratx

Seen from the water, Dragonera really does look like a sleeping dragon: a long, narrow island with a spiky ridge and steep cliffs dropping into deep blue water. It is a natural park off Mallorca’s western tip, opposite the village of Sant Elm.

The route from Palma

Dragonera is a full-day trip with some of the best coastal scenery in Mallorca on the way:

1. Along the Bay of Palma past Illetes and Portals Vells.
2. Around Cap de Cala Figuera and past Santa Ponsa and the Malgrats islands.
3. Camp de Mar and Port d’Andratx — one of the island’s most beautiful harbours, framed by villas and mountains.
4. Along the rugged west coast to Sant Elm and the channel between Mallorca and Dragonera.

On the way back, a late swim stop in a sheltered cove before returning to Palma for sunset.

What you’ll see

• Towering cliffs on the island’s seaward side and lighthouses at each end.
• Deep, clear water in the channel — spectacular for swimming.
• Sant Elm, a relaxed little village facing the island.

Mooring and landing options on the island are limited and regulated by the park. Your captain decides on the day where you can stop and swim.

Weather matters

The west coast is more exposed than the Bay of Palma. On calm days it is magical; with a northerly or strong westerly wind your captain may suggest Camp de Mar or Port d’Andratx as the turning point instead.
